The American Veterans Ball (AVB) is HONORED to announce that Major General Marta Carcana, Puerto Rico National Guard (Retired) and former Adjutant General will be joining us on Veterans Day. Major General Carcana began her broad and extensive military career in the 1986 in U.S. Army Reserve serving as a clinical nurse with the MC HSP FLD (HUB), Puerto Nuevo, Puerto Rico. Entered the Puerto Rico National Guard in 1996, served as RSS Chief, 101st Troop Command FWD, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Pristina Kosovo, Military Assistant to Chief of Staff and military missions as a nurse in the Republic of Honduras and Paraguay, Panama and Japan.

As the Adjutant General she was the Senior Military Advisor to the Governor of Puerto Rico and provided oversight to both State and Federal Missions of the Puerto Rico National Guard. She also provided leadership and management in the implementation of all programs and policies affecting more than 10,500 citizen-soldiers and airmen, and civilian employees of the three components of the PR National Guard: Puerto Rico Army National Guard, Puerto Rico Air National Guard and Puerto Rico State Guard. Her responsibility also included sharing her reports with the Secretary of the Army or the Secretary of the Air Force. Additionally, she was the principal advisor assisting in the discharge of responsibilities in the areas of logistics, fiscal compliance, and personnel administration.

Major General Marta Carcana was born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. She graduated from Eastern District High School in Brooklyn, New York. She has an Associate’s Degree in nursing from New York City College of Technology and a Bachelor’s Degree from the Metropolitan University of Puerto Rico and a Master’s Degree in business administration from the University Central of Michigan in Puerto Rico. General Carcana received her direct commission as second lieutenant in 1986. U.S. Army War College MS in Strategic Studies.
