Reverend Sandra K. James is a native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She is the 5th of 8 children, a devoted wife, proud mother of 3 wonderful adult children and doting grandmother of 6 gifted grandchildren and great grandmother of 1. Sandra accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, and was baptized at an early age. In 1984, she acknowledged her call to preach and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and was later licensed and ordained. Reverend James has traveled the country and abroad preaching and teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ as God leads her heart and gives her favor.
Reverend James received her Bachelor’s of Arts degree in History from Stillman College, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Masters of Public Administration studies from Central Michigan University, the Masters of Divinity from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University, the Certificate of Theology and Ministry from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a graduate of The United States Armed Forces Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Sandra is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Ministry in Pastoral Theology from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary.
Sandra is humbled by every door God has opened and every opportunity she is given to serve. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., listed in Who’s Who among Outstanding Women in America, she is a professional affiliate of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, past Co-President of the Prince William Ministerial Association, she is a Northern Virginia Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc Ebone’ Image Award recipient in the area of Religion and a charter/founding member of the Prince William County Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc, she is a “VOICES” of Women award recipient; designated as a GITA (Girls Inspired To Achieve) woman to watch, listed in the Cambridge Registry of Who’s Who of Professional Women Executives in the area of Religion, and a “Visionary Charter” member of the National Consortium of Black Women in Ministry. Reverend James is a retired Officer after serving over 23 years of active military service in the United States Army.
Reverend James has served in a number of ministry and leadership positions to include: Director of Protestant Youth Services, Fort Huachuca, Arizona; Chaplain at the Arizona Department of Corrections; Minister of Music; Choir Director; Superintendent of Sunday School; Youth Pastor; Assistant Pastor; Interim Pastor; instructor for the Evans-Smith Leadership Training Institute of Northern Virginia, events planner, facilitator and coordinator for retreats, seminars, and conferences, as well as keynote-speaker/teacher and preacher.
Reverend James is the founder of REJOICE INCOPORATED which was birthed out of Psalm 118:24. Her Call as a preacher and teacher, as well as founder of REJOICE, allows her to embrace her love as a preacher, inspirational speaker, teacher, and facilitator, reaching and equipping people for leadership through service in corporate, civic, Christian, public and private organizations. RESTORED JOY is an extension of REJOICE that assist those who have lost children to violence and those dealing with grief and bereavement with tools of hope as they journey to a place of “RESTORED JOY” knowing that the “joy of the Lord is our strength”! Sandra trusts God to provide a “word in season and training for the task at hand” as she delivers messages of hope, healing, and wholeness. Diversity is her hallmark in ministry because of her preaching, teaching, and musical gifts. Reverend James consistently proves her gifts as a Psalmist, and praise and worship leader, ultimately “ushering” people into the presence of God. Her warmth, compassion and humor punctuate all that she does. Skillful precision and great care allows Sandra to be personable in God’s gifting of her to draw people to a closer walk with God.
Reverend James currently serves as the Assistant Pastor of the First Mount Zion Baptist Church located in Dumfries Virginia. In her personal relationship with God, her daily affirmation is Psalm 118:24…
